Elly De La Cruz is Cincinnati’s All Star
Cincinnati’s ‘lone’ All Star, at that.
The best player on the Cincinnati Reds is officially a 2024 Major League Baseball All Star.
Elly De La Cruz, the team’s leader in both fWAR (4.1) and bWAR (3.2) as of Sunday morning, will be the lone representative repping the Reds at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas come July 16th. He’ll do so as a completely deserving member of the club, obviously, as he’s shown himself to be perhaps the most toolsy player in all of baseball so far this year.
Elly De La All-Star.

To date, Elly’s 43 steals are the most by any player in the game by a large margin, and he’s also managed to sock 15 homers and an National League best 6 triples (despite playing his home games in one of the least triple-inducing ball parks in the game). He owned an .813 OPS and 126 OPS+ as of Sunday morning, and that 4.1 fWAR mark ranks as the 6th best among all position players in baseball.
Elly won’t start at shortstop after losing out on the popular vote – that honor will go to Trea Turner, one of seven Philadelphia Phillies who made the NL’s All Star roster. For the complete All Star rosters and some blurbs about each player, you can check out MLB.com’s breakdown.
Congrats to Elly, who bags his first All Star appearance at just 22 years of age.
