Milwaukee Brewers: Colin Rea Becomes 2nd Pitcher In Franchise History With This Coors Field Accomplishment.

The Milwaukee Brewers picked up a 3-0 win against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, July 3. In this game starting pitcher Colin Rea was the main story line as he accomplished something last done by a Brewers player in 2005.

34 year old Colin Rea is quietly becoming the Milwaukee Brewers most consistent starting pitcher. Per Curt Hogg he is on pace to throw 175 innings this year and after tossing seven shutout innings against the Rockies in Coors Field his season ERA has lowered to 3.34. During this outing in Colorado Colin Rea scattered six hits across seven frames, didn’t walk a batter, struck out just four, but generated nine ground ball outs and lots of weak contact all night.

Only one other Milwaukee Brewers pitcher has tossed seven shutout innings at Coors Field.

According to the research of Mike Vassallo the only other Brewers pitcher to throw seven shutout innings in the Colorado altitude is Chris Capuano. The lefty did this in August of 2005. In that game Capuano threw 7.0 innings, allowed six hits, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out eight.

The Milwaukee Brewers have only shutout the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field three times.
