“He’s Ruined It” – Exclusive Damning Assessment From Sheffield Wednesday Legend On Key Figure.
This time last year, Sheffield Wednesday fans were fearing the worst after a summer of turmoil with an owner that many wanted rid of.
Darren Moore had left the club only a handful of weeks before the season started. Signings looked few and far between. It seemed the club were set up for relegation straight back to the third tier.
Yet this year, the feeling seems to have changed. The Owls have already made five signings, some of which have set an ambitious tone. With Danny Rohl at the helm too, the only direction now seems to be up. However, does that mean all of the off-field issues have gone?
Well, Sheffield Wednesday legend Chris Waddle believes that is not the case, speaking exclusively to The Real EFL this week about the club’s hierarchy.
“Chansiri, from a great club, Sheffield Wednesday, he’s ruined it.”
The 63-year-old played almost 150 games during his time at Hillsborough, cementing himself as a legend with the blue side of Sheffield in the mid-1990s. Having arrived from Marseille in 1992, he made an immediate impact, helping the club win the League Cup and reach the FA Cup final.
Asked whether there was a risk the German head coach could move on from Wednesday if a better opportunity presented itself, Waddle admitted he would be surprised if he wasn’t looking around.
“He’s been great at Sheffield Wednesday. I’m sure he was getting a lot of offers. not just in England. But obviously, Wednesday took the option. He’ll give what he’s got. I think he likes the club, the fans, and it all, but if he’s going to get messed about, which he probably will with his chairman, I’ve just got no time for him.”
“I’m sure Danny Rohl will have spoken to other people during the summer, but he’s probably said, look, I’ve got to stay where I am and, we’ll see how it goes. But if Chansiri doesn’t back what Danny Rohl expects, and he feels he’s banged his head, then I can see him leaving.”
The former Southampton assistant has had a great record with the Yorkshire outfit since taking charge during the last campaign, helping steer the side away from the relegation that they looked destined for.
However, that record will have certainly put him on the radar of other clubs in need of a new manager, and that is unlikely to change as the new campaign starts.
