Newcastle United reach £40m agreement major claim regarding personal terms with Everton

Newcastle United are reportedly facing difficulties in their push to sell Yankuba Minteh before the end of the week.
Despite impressing on loan at Dutch side Feyenoord last season, the Magpies are reluctantly looking to offload the 19-year-old talent amid pressures to comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

PSR rules allows clubs to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period. The deadline is on June 30 of each year, hence Newcastle’s eagerness to wrap up the Gambian’s exit before Monday.

Earlier this week, a move to Everton emerged as Minteh’s most likely destination, however talks broke down after United ended their pursuit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Toffees reportedly demanded £40m for the striker, who is out-of-contract in 12 months time.

A trade-off involving Minteh and Calvert-Lewin would have helped both clubs combat PSR.

In the days since, Lyon have came forward but a deal is currently in doubt. According to The Sun, Newcastle have agreed a £40m fee with the French club but Minteh has declined to discuss personal terms as he wants to continue in the Premier League.

Speaking earlier this year, Minteh did say: “Ultimately, the Premier League is my goal. Newcastle United is the club that have a lot of confidence in me. I have no idea what the future looks like.”

Minteh is yet to kick a ball for Newcastle since being signed from Danish side Odense Boldklub for £7million last summer. He was immediately loaned to Feyenoord, where he scored 11 goals in 37 appearances.

Toon fans have been torn on the prospect of losing Minteh. His value could explode in the coming years but, at the same time, the Magpies may never receive an offer as good should he fail to realise his potential.

Sunday, June 30 will mark the end of Matt Ritchie, Paul Dummett, Loris Karius, Jeff Hendrick and Kell Watts’ contracts at St James’ Park, leaving them free to find new clubs this summer.

The club are also in negotiations regarding a potential departure for 19-year-old winger Yankuba Minteh before Sunday’s deadline for 2023-24 Premier League Profitability and Sustainability calculations.

Reflecting on the departing players, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe said earlier this month: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to each of the players leaving the club this summer.

“They have all given so much to the cause in their own ways, and I know our supporters will join me in wishing them every success with the next step in their careers.

“It’s easy to judge players by appearances and goals, but the contribution made to the club by Paul and Matt in particular really has been immeasurable over many years. They have had a huge influence on our progress as a team and as a club.
