Everton’s U-turn on shock Newcastle United transfer confirmed after ‘agreeing’ £27m deal

Newcastle United are looking to offload Yankuba Minteh before the July 1 deadline for a fresh FFP/PSR three-year cycle
Everton are close to signing Marseille forward Iliman Ndiaye – making a move for Yankuba Minteh unlikely.

Newcastle United are looking at offloading the 19-year-old talent despite an impressive season on loan at Feyenoord. FFP/PSR restrictions continue to govern the Magpies’ thinking and, in an ideal world, he would be staying on Tyneside.

But Toon chiefs must raise funds before the balance sheet begins a new three-year period on July 1. Minteh – yet to play in black-and-white stripes – will reportedly be used as bait despite outlining his desire to play for Newcastle.

Fresh Yankuba Minteh transfer update drops amid Everton talks

“Ultimately, the Premier League is my goal,” he said earlier this year. “Newcastle United is the club that have a lot of confidence in me. I have no idea what the future looks like.”

The Magpies reportedly want £30million for the Gambia international – a fee that repelled interest from Everton. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s move to Newcastle breaking down due to the £37million was also a hurdle.

Everton appear to have moved on swiftly, with The Guardian reporting that they have agreed a deal for Ndiaye. The Senegalese international can play as a No.10 or out wide – occupying a similar role to Minteh.

He would arrive with previous English experience having spent four years at Sheffield United. Ndiaye joining Everton kills the Minteh deal and places Lyon as the front-runner to land his signature.

Newcastle fans have been torn on the prospect of losing a player who joined for £7million last summer. Minteh’s value could explode in the coming years but, at the same time, the Magpies may never receive an offer as good should he fail to realise his potential.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has already outlined his stance on a possible transfer away from the club this summer, with Chelsea reportedly making an enquiry for the player.

The Daily Mail reports that the Blues have been in contact with Newcastle over a potential move and there have been ‘conversations’ between the two parties with Chelsea indicating that they would like to buy the striker this summer.

If a deal is to happen, then the transfer fee is expected to eclipse the £115 million fee that Chelsea paid to Brighton for the signing of Moises Caicedo last summer. football.london understands that Arsenal are also interested in a potential summer move for Isak with the striker among those being monitored by the club as they look to strengthen their frontline.

Isak has been with Newcastle since moving from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022. He has scored a total of 35 goals in 67 games for the club and has become a fan favourite at St James’ Park.

Earlier this month, the player himself spoke about his future amid links with a move away from the club. “I am enjoying myself at Newcastle, and I had the best season in my career — that should not be underestimated,” he told Swedish outlet Fotballskanalen . “I love everything about the club; the fans, and the city.
