Big Hull City transfer exits could become a positive for new boss Tim Walter as they finally agreed deal

The subject of Greaves’ future remains a hot topic ahead of the start of pre-season

The future of Jacob Greaves will be one of the big talking points throughout the summer with Hull City facing a battle to keep the 23-year-old at the MKM Stadium, and one former Tigers player believes sales are inevitable.

City have not been in the Premier League since 2017 and are one of the clubs in the Championship that do not have the benefit of parachute payments, like Leeds United, Sheffield United and Luton Town, amongst others, and because of that, the reality is they may well be forced to sell one of their key players this summer.

Everton tipped to beat Tottenham in Greaves transfer race

Greaves is one of those, and so, too, is Jaden Philogene, and in a bid to help Acun Ilicali’s funding of the club, and give new boss Tim Walter money to spend, Ray Parlour believes it may be inevitable that City sell for big money this season, but says it would help the German reinvest and stamp his authority on the squad with so much work required.

The 23-year-old is a product of the Tigers’ academy, and performed exceptionally last season in winning a collection of awards at the club’s presentation evening ahead of the final game of the season, and was named in the Championship’s Team of the Season, form which only enhanced his growing – and glowing – reputation.

Everton, Nottingham Forest and West Ham are Premier League clubs expected to lodge firm bids this summer, while Italian Serie A giants Roma were tracking him 12 months ago, and Parlour says reinvesting any sale money would be hugely important for Walter, as he looks to make his mark this summer.

“He (Greaves) has been a good player for Hull City, but if the manager believes he can recruit elsewhere and bring in better players this may be the case,” the ex-Tigers and Arsenal man explained in conversation with FLW.

“You can’t keep spending without recouping money for players, so it’s important to have a balanced squad and you have the trust of the manager to bring in good players. Strength in depth is key in the Championship with so many games as well.”
