Detroit Lions set to Trade for Pro Bowl Kansas City Chiefs WR in Anticipation of Historic Super Bowl Run
The last time the Detroit Lions won a championship was in 1957. They won it all that year as well, but there’s no denying that the fans have been desperately thirsting for glory now that their drought is approaching seven full decades.
There is a feeling within the organization and among the fanbase that this could be their year. At this point, however, it seems that the Lions will need to do more in terms of strengthening their squad if they want to seriously contend for the title this season.
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report agrees with the notion that the Lions are on the cusp of being a legitimate title contender this term. He also argues, however, that Detroit remains one or two pieces away from becoming a real threat in the NFC.
Gagnon believes that targeting a star wide receiver like Amari Cooper could be the type of move that gets the Lions over the hump:
As Gagnon stated above, a move on Cooper would rely heavily on how the Cleveland Browns fare this season. If they fall out of contention by the middle of the season, then they might just be willing to part ways with their five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver — at the right price, of course.
“The Lions are gearing up. A team that has never been to the Super Bowl can clearly smell it, and another strong offseason of shoring up and bolstering weak spots indicates they’re all-in.
“… With that in mind, I’d watch for the NFC’s leader in cap space to make one more splash ahead of the deadline.
“Potential targets include Amari Cooper if the Browns aren’t competitive and Tee Higgins if the Bengals fall off again. Both walk-year veteran receivers could be game-changers in Detroit,” Gagnon wrote.
After being drafted in the third round by the Lions out of NC State, McNeill has accumulated 112 total tackles so far in his time with Detroit. The one thing he hasn’t done yet is play fullback on offense like he used to in high school. That led to News 10′s Fred Heumann to ask him if he would be ready if his number was indeed called this season by Dan Campbell.
On Saturday morning, the Taylor Moton camp hosted almost 400 kids at the Hope Sports Complex in Lansing, and many of the coaches at the camp were former or current NFL and college football players. One of those players was Detroit’s DT Alim McNeill, who is getting ready to play his fourth season with the Lions.
