The Philadelphia Flyers have claimed another sensational ace from the New York Rangers as perfect replacement
The Flyers have claimed a familiar face off of waivers in Barclay Goodrow. Goodrow returns to Flyers where he spent the first six years of his career.
The San Jose Sharks have claimed old friend Barclay Goodrow off waivers from the New York Rangers. The Rangers placed Goodrow on waivers yesterday to clear up cap space. Goodrow now returns to San Jose where he spent the first six seasons of his career.
Goodrow is coming off a great playoff run with New York. He scored six goals, two assists and eight points for New York in 16 games. Although he had a rough regular season, as he put up 12 points in 80 games.
As good as his playoff performance was, putting up just 12 points in 80 games isn’t great when talking about a player who makes 3.6 million per season. With Goodrow being claimed by San Jose, the Rangers are completely free of his contract. They don’t have to worry about buyout or dead cap consequences. It’s essentially just a trade of the contract between the two teams.
The San Jose Sharks are making their team more competitive.
In addition to Goodrow, the Sharks also made a trade today with the Dallas Stars. They acquired Ty Dellandrea Dallas in exchange for a 2025 fourth round pick. Dellandrea had two goals, seven assists and nine points in 42 games played with the Stars this season.
These moves of bringing in Goodrow and Dellandrea are not flashy. But San Jose isn’t in a position as as franchise to make a flashy move. Goodrow seems like a revival project, and Dellandrea is a gutsy bottom six forward that was lacking opportunity to play in Dallas. With San Jose being in a rebuild, he should see an increase in minutes next year.
The future is bright in San Jose. They recently signed 2023 fourth overall pick Will Smith to his entry level contract, and they have the opportunity to draft Macklin Celebrini first overall in the upcoming NHL draft. There’s still going to be pain in San Jose for awhile, but they’re making the right moves for the future.
Ginning picked up a depth role for the Flyers late in the season and will come into camp this summer competing to earn it back
The Flyers re-upped defenseman Adam Ginning on a two-year contract extension Monday.
The contract will convert from two-way into a one-way deal over time and pay an annual salary of $787,500, the organization announced.
Ginning took up a depth role for the Flyers late in the season, skating in nine games for the playoff push that fell apart down the stretch.
The 24-year old held up decently, averaging 14:09 of ice time and an even plus-minus rating of zero, with a big hit delivered to Florida’s Sam Bennett across center ice back on March 7 and then an even bigger one dodged from Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe on March 26 in New York.
