Mason Greenwood set for £40m exit as Man Utd open talks with Newcastle United as perfect replacement
Man United are looking to shift the 22-year-old this summer.
Premier League rivals Newcastle United have reportedly opened talks with Manchester United over a potential summer move for Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood is expected to be moved on this summer, with Lazio just one of several clubs interested, as per The Daily Mail.
The Englishman scored 10 goals and registered six assists during a loan spell for Getafe last season.
But it’s Lazio who are the first team to have formalised their interest with the Red Devils.
It’s claimed the Italian side have held long-standing interest in the forward, with Lazio keen on making a permanent swoop for Greenwood.
Lazio are said to be progressing on a deal which would see Greenwood complete a £30million move to the Stadio Olimpico.
But Lazio aren’t the only team eyeing up a Greenwood grab, with Serie A rivals Juventus and Napoli also exploring a deal.
Newcastle United will already be preparing for next season as they look to go one better in their bid to qualify for Europe again. The Magpies were unlucky to miss out on European football in the season just gone, but they know they need to finish in one of the guaranteed qualification spots if they want to keep their fate in their own hands.
Eddie Howe will want more reinforcements this summer in a bid to improve on the efforts of the last campaign, although he also knows he has Sandro Tonali to come back into the frame next season. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding St James’ Park.
Arsenal will reportedly consider making a player-plus-cash deal for Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes this summer as they continue to struggle to meet the Magpies’ reported £100million valuation. FootballTransfers claim the Gunners still want to sign Guimaraes having struggled to get a response from Real Sociedad over Spain international Martin Zubimendi.
It’s reported players like Oleksandr Zinchenko, Emile Smith Rowe, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Eddie Nketiah and Thomas Partey could be considered to be included in a swap deal. Newcastle could do with the cash upfront given their PSR concerns, but if they truly are struggling to meet requirements, some sort of deal may be better than none at all, especially if they want to spend this summer.
Newcastle could be ‘favourites’ to land Nottingham Forest man Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones. He told GiveMeSport: “Doubt continues to linger around the potential of him staying at Nottingham Forest and my hunch is that if he leaves, Newcastle would be the best-placed to sign him.
