Phil Parkinson will be working hard behind the scenes to acquire the players he needs at Wrexham this summer.

For Wrexham, a stable transfer window is what the doctor ordered and Parkinson has been scouring the leagues for the best free transfers available, with a new strike partner for Paul Mullin nearing the top of his priorities.

Luckily, plenty of League One strikers are available for a price of £0…

Stephen Humphrys popped onto their radar last month following his release from Wigan Athletic.

The 26-year-old is currently looking for a new club after leaving the Latics and most in League One would surely be tempted to sign him.

Humphrys scored 11 goals in 46 matches last term, and although that isn’t the most prolific record, the talented striker offers more than just potency in front of goal.

The Oldham-born sharpshooter is excellent at playing with his back to goal, shielding the ball for his teammates and challenging defenders physically.

Parkinson loves to play a physically imposing striker next to Mullin and for a cost of £0, he could land a bargain this summer.

Devante Cole, the son of former Manchester United striker Andy, is currently looking for his next challenge after leaving Barnsley.

The 29-year-old is fresh from firing the Tykes into the play-offs last term with 18 goals in all competitions.

Cole is the ideal striker to partner Mullin as not only is he a quick, strong and powerful operator, he’s calmness personified in front of goal.

A complete nuisance for defenders physically and lethal when the chances arise, Cole is arguably the best striker on the market for any League One club to pick up.

Wrexham would have to act fast as once his contract expires in South Yorkshire, a queue of clubs will be lining up for his signature.

Wrexham have already shown an interest in breaking their transfer record to land Brighton’s Marc Leonard, which would smash the £300,000 fee that took Ollie Palmer from AFC Wimbledon to the STōK Cae Ras in January 2022.

It shows their intent to compete against the league’s big hitters to seriously mount a promotion push.
