Portsmouth set to land Gillingham defender on two-year deal after won the race with Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers
Connor Ogilvie has put pen to paper on a new two-year Pompey contract. The 28-year-old defender played a key role last season as the side claimed the League One title to secure a Championship return. The left-back has scored eight goals in 117 appearances for the club since arriving from Gillingham in the summer of 2021. Blues boss John Mousinho said: ‘We’re delighted that Connor has signed a new deal – he’s been brilliant for me ever since I arrived at the club. ‘He fully deserved to be offered a contract and is someone that we believe can make the step up to the next level.
‘Connor is an extremely solid – and versatile – defender, while also offering a lot for the team going forward.
‘Our record with him in the team is excellent and I’m excited to see what he can do in the Championship.’
Former England youth international Ogilvie came through the ranks at Spurs before joining the Gills, where he featured in more than 150 games. He scored twice for Pompey last season, finding the net in valuable victories over Barnsley and Northampton.
His commitment to another two years at Fratton Park comes just 24 hours after the Blues announced their first signing of the transfer window – Barnsley right-back Jordan Williams on a free transfer
Gillingham have made a “good offer” of a new contract to Dom Jefferies, amid transfer interest from Millwall, according to the League Two club’s owner Brad Galinson, who has admitted that the midfielder must do what is right for himself.
Jefferies joined Gillingham back in the summer of 2022, signing on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Premier League side Brentford.
Since then, the 22-year-old has, despite some recent injury issues, been an important player for the Gills since making the move to Priestfield.
In total, Jefferies has made 71 appearances in all competitions for Gillingham, scoring two goals and providing three assists in that time.
However, the midfielder is now facing a somewhat uncertain future at the club, amid interest from elsewhere.
Last month, Football League World exclusively revealed that Championship side Millwall, along with Scottish Premiership club Hiberian and Hugarian outfit Fehervar, are keen to sign Jefferies.
As things stand, the midfielder’s contract with Gillingham is set to expire this summer, meaning he is available on a free transfer as things stand, amid that interest from elsewhere.
However, the Gills confirmed in their end of season retained list that the 22-year-old has been offered a new deal to extend his stay at Priestfield.
