San Francisco 49ers Fans Are Furious Over Recent Brandon Aiyuk Trade Proposal from the Dallas Cowboys
The San Francisco 49ers have wrapped up their mandatory minicamp and now have their sights set on training camp in late July. As the defending NFC Champions, their sights are also set on accomplishing a goal that they have not been able to since 1995: win the Super Bowl.
On paper, the 49ers have one of the best rosters in the entire NFL. Led by Pro Bowl quarterback Brock Purdy, San Francisco boasts other All-Pro weapons in Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, and Kyle Juszczyk.
One of these players, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, however, has not been present at any offseason activities. Ever since the 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, he has been vocal about his desire for a massive contract extension and is holding out until he gets one. This has led many to formulate various trade proposals should the two sides not be able to come to a contract agreement.
One Brandon Aiyuk Trade Proposal Has the San Francisco 49ers Receiving Christian Watson from the Green Bay Packers
One particular trade proposal that has gone viral is one put forward by Bleacher Report that would send Aiyuk to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for wide receiver Christian Watson and a second round draft pick:
This proposal does not make sense for the Packers, who are not going to trade away a wide receiver that is still on his rookie contract for another that they may need to pay $30 million or more. After all, they wouldn’t even pay Davante Adams that much.
As one can see, the biggest criticism of this trade is that Watson cannot stay healthy. Green Bay has spent millions of dollars this offseason trying to find the cause of his many hamstring injuries, and they believe that they have. However, no one will know if the problem is solved until the regular season.
Since the Packers spent that money, there is no way they would just trade Watson away just to spend money on another player altogether.
“Aiyuk would immediately slot in as the clear-cut No. 1 option in Green Bay’s aerial attack. His presence would allow Jordan Love to further elevate his game after reaching the postseason in his first year as a starter.
“Watson should greatly intrigue the Niners’ brass as well. Although he has only appeared in 23 games since being drafted No. 34 overall in 2022, he has been a consistent scoring force when healthy. He’s racked up 14 total touchdowns since entering the NFL and his unique blend of size (6’4″, 208 pounds) and athleticism could be put to great use in San Francisco’s scheme.”
