Losses keep piling up on Bears, and coach Matt Eberflus has few answers - Chicago Sun-Times

Bears should feel sense of urgency at safety after Marcus Maye signs with Dolphins

Will the Tennessee Titans feel motivated to make a move at safety?

The Tennessee Titans’ biggest need on the roster is at safety opposite Amani Hooker. General manager Ran Carthon showed interest in former New Orleans Saints and New York Jets safety Marcus Maye earlier this offseason by hosting him in Nashville for a visit. Maye is no longer on the market after signing with the Miami Dolphins on Monday evening.

It’s unclear whether or not the Titans had legitimate interest in Maye or not. The visit could have been to clear up last season’s circumstances as the veteran safety dealt with both injury and suspension. Jordan Schultz did mention in his report that Maye had interest from “multiple teams” before choosing the Dolphins. Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson previously coached Maye for four seasons (2017-2020) with the Jets.

Maye’s decision could kick-start the veteran safety market, where the Titans require an every-down starter next to Hooker. The only other safeties on the roster are Elijah Molden, Mike Brown, Shyheim Carter, Keaton Ellis, and Matthew Jackson. None of them are equipped to be more than a rotational defender, and a couple of them aren’t even 53-man roster worthy.

Justin Simmons is the best safety available, and the Titans did reportedly have interest in him earlier this offseason. Other potential targets include Quandre Diggs, Eddie Jackson, Tracy Walker, and Kareem Jackson. The Titans should feel a sense of urgency to add a safety after potentially missing out on Maye’s signature.
