Carlton Palmer says Sheffield Wednesday ace ‘right’ to reject new contract offer.
Carlton Palmer believes this Sheffield Wednesday star would be making the ‘right call’ by leaving the club this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday are clearing the decks ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, with several players having already moved on.
The likes of Reece James and Lee Gregory have already found new clubs, whilst George Byers is among those set to become free agents at the end of this month.
The Owls still have a few players who they’re waiting on decisions from; Josh Windass and Di’Shon Bernard are two, with both having had interest from elsewhere this summer.
Danny Rohl though has already seen Liam Palmar and Barry Bannan extend their stays at Sheffield Wednesday.
Cameron Dawson has been tipped to leave Hillsborough this summer, despite being offered a new deal; it comes after news that Sheffield Wednesday were set to sign free agent goalkeeper Ben Hamer.
Carlton Palmer reacts to Cameron Dawson news at Sheffield Wednesday
Reacting to the news of Dawson looking set to leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer, Palmer backed the 28-year-old’s decision.
Palmer told Football League World: “He [Dawson] feels that the time has come now to move on, and I totally agree with him.
“At the age of 28, he needs to be playing regular first team football, not sitting on the bench.”
Palmer added: “It’s the right call by Cameron Dawson, Sheffield Wednesday supporters, of course, will wish him all the best.
“He has been a top pro at the football club, and it’s time to move on and play regular first team football.”
Sheffield-born Dawson rose through the youth ranks at Sheffield Wednesday, going on to make 129 total appearances for the club, with an impressive 47 clean sheets to his name.
