Corey Seager’s hitting streak reaches 14 games as the Texas Rangers secure a 7-0 victory over the Miami Marlins.
Corey Seager hit two singles and a double, extending his streak of games where he gets a hit to 14, helping the Texas Rangers win 7-0 against the Miami Marlins on Saturday.
The star shortstop has also managed to get on base in 24 consecutive games. During this hitting streak that began on May 14, he has gotten 19 hits out of 51 at-bats.
Marcus Semien also contributed with two singles and a double, while Robbie Grossman hit a double and a single for the Rangers. Despite striking out 16 times, they finished the game with 13 hits.
“The offense did an excellent job today,” commented Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. “Throughout the lineup, our hitters made solid contact. They were aggressive at the plate.”
Michael Lorenzen (3-3) pitched 6 1/3 innings without allowing any runs, earning his first win since April 21. He gave up five hits and walked two batters.

“Pitching is all about finding solutions,” said Lorenzen. “You start the game with a plan, but you also adjust based on how the batters are reacting. As the game progresses, you make changes to your approach. I think I got better at solving that puzzle as the game went on.”
Lorenzen, who was signed as a free agent, has been a valuable addition to the Rangers’ rotation, especially after Jordan Montgomery left in free agency and Nathan Eovaldi was sidelined for four weeks due to a groin injury in May.
“He’s a workhorse on our pitching staff,” Bochy praised. “It’s a significant addition for us. It’s incredible that he was available. He competes so well and maintains his composure on the mound.”
Marlins starter Ryan Weathers had a career-high 11 strikeouts in six innings but gave up four runs and nine hits.
“Six innings with 11 strikeouts and four runs allowed, I’ll take that any day,” said Marlins manager Skip Schumaker. “Ryan gave us a chance to win the game. Unfortunately, our offense couldn’t produce much today.”
José Leclerc, Jacob Latz, and Gerson Garabito pitched the final eight outs, completing the shutout for the Rangers.
