Everton’s talks with striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin over a potential new contract have been held up due to financial concerns, sources have told Football Insider today.

Club and player have held discussions over extending the 27-year-old’s deal but it is believed the striker’s future is up in the air due to the takeover situation.

Calvert-Lewin’s current contract is set to expire in June 2025.

Cash-strapped Everton continue to struggle in the market with 777 Partners failing to complete a takeover of the club in recent days.

The Merseysiders announced on Saturday (1 June) that they are now ready to explore other options for new ownership.

Uncertainty over Everton’s financial situation has meant new signings and contract renewals are largely on pause until a solution is found.

Calvert-Lewin, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract, made 38 appearances in a relatively injury-free 2023-24 campaign, notching eight goals and three assists.

The striker, who has been on the books at Goodison Park since 2016, has hit 68 Everton goals in total.

Everton also have strikers Beto, Neal Maupay and Chermiti on the books at Goodison Park – but all three are yet to discover a prolific touch in a blue shirt.

Calvert-Lewin was the club’s top scorer in the 2023-24 campaign with eight goals, while midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure chipped in with seven valuable strikes.

Sean Dyche’s side finished 15th in the most recent Premier League season despite being deducted eight points for financial breaches.
