Dodgers All-Star shut down after rehab setback.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming out of a cold stretch, but they might have a much bigger issue on their hands.

Muncy has not played since May 15 due to an oblique injury, and appears to have suffered a significant setback in his rehab efforts. The infielder felt a “twinge” in his rib cage while swinging a bat roughly a week ago, and has been shut down from all baseball activity as a result. There is no timetable for his return.

Though Muncy has never been one to hit for a high average, he provided 36 home runs last year, and it could be argued that the Dodgers missed his power threat during their recent downturn. He was hitting .223 with nine home runs in 40 games before he went down with his injury.

The Dodgers have really struggled to get the best out of some of their top performers in 2023. Muncy potentially missing significant time is only going to make things worse.
