Astros Rebound With A 5-2 Over Twins.
Not much has gone right for the Astros this season. Multiple starting pitchers are out with injuries. Reinforcements are expected to arrive, but perhaps too late to make a difference. The lineup has generally struggled other than Kyle Tucker and Jake Meyers. The bullpen has blown more games than I care to remember and it is only June 1. For those keeping count, Houston has 17 blown leads on the season entering Saturday. There’s also the situation with José Abreu. I probably sound like a broken record because I am and these have been the main talking points for weeks. But no matter how tired a subject could become it doesn’t make it any less true.
Following a rough four-game set in Seattle, the Astros looked relatively lifeless against the Twins on Friday night. I mean, they did lose 6-1 and finished a 15-14 May with a whimper. But the schedule eases a bit in June, and if there is a month to rebound it is this one. Only three clubs — Twins, Orioles, and Giants — had a .500 or better record on Saturday. The remainder of the schedule this month has its fair share of below .500 clubs. Again, if there is a time to turn this season around, it is likely now or never.
If Saturday’s game was a sign of things to come, well, I have no complaints. It also helps when Yordan Alvarez hits, you know, like Yordan Alvarez. His two-run shot in the first inning off Joe Ryan set the tone early.
