First, it was reported that the team was sending down right-handed pitcher Christian Scott and third baseman Brett Baty to Triple-A. Additionally, the team was designating catcher Omar Narváez for assignment.

Veteran shortstop Jose Iglesias is being called up to replace Baty. The Mets are also acquiring catcher Luis Torrens in a trade with the New York Yankees.

Let’s start at the top with Scott and Baty.

Scott, 24, has been a lone bright spot in the Mets’ rotation this season. The former fifth-round pick in 2021 has made five starts, and has a 3.90 ERA with 25 strikeouts to just six walks. He’ll now look to continue that success in Triple-A.

As for Baty, the 24-year-old has struggled at the MLB level throughout his brief career. The team’s No. 2 prospect last season was slashing .225/.304/.325 this year with four home runs and 16 RBIs. Last year, he appeared in 108 games at the MLB level, and slashed .212/.275/.323 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs.
