Since starting the year 17-9, the Cubs are just 11-20 and looking for solutions as the gap between them and the NL East-leading MIlwaukee Brewers has ballooned to 5.5 games entering Friday action. Chicago has lost seven of its past eight games, including three of four most recently in Milwaukee. The Cubs close out May and open June with a quick five-game homestand at Wrigley Field looking to create momentum moving forward. They’ve got three this weekend against the Reds before kicking off a short two-game cross-town rivalry series with the Chicago White Sox.

The Reds’ struggles are even more pronounced with six straight setbacks and losses in nine of their past 10 games, but they still have a 24-32 record and sit nine games back of the Brewers in the NL East. A future hot streak could pave the way for a meaningful run, which is what both the Cubs and Reds are eyeing as they kick off their three-game set.
