Bailey Ober hammered in Twins’ 6-1 loss to Royals
Ober was charged with six runs on nine hits in five innings as Minnesota lost for just the second time since May 23
Jose Miranda was certain he had just given the Twins a 3-0 lead early on one of the majors’ best pitchers on Wednesday. Instead, his towering fly ball landed short of the left field wall, and the Twins settled for one run on his sacrifice fly.
Will Castro had doubled and moved to third on Carlos Santana’s one-out single when Miranda came to plate for his first at-bat of the night.
“I thought it was gone. It’s a tough one,” Miranda said. “I hit it 101 (mph). I hit it to left field, which you would’ve thought it was going to go. It stayed on the field. At least we got one run, but yeah, I thought it was gone.”
It was like that for the Twins during a 6-1 loss to Seth Lugo and the Kansas City Royals in front of an announced crowd of 18.130 at Target Field. Minnesota hit a lot of balls hard, and put 13 runners on base, but couldn’t get the big hits when they needed them.
Kansas City had no such problems against Bailey Ober.
Nelson Velazquez homered twice and drove in three runs, and Salvador Perez drove in two with a double and homer as second-place Kansas City rang up the Twins right-hander for six runs on nine hits in five innings.
