Sheffield Wednesday are considering a move for Ovie Ejaria, according to a report by The Star.
Sheffield Wednesday took a look at the free agent on trial during the latter stages of last season. They managed to retain their Championship status under Danny Rohl and are preparing for another year in the second tier.
Ejaria, 26, has been available since cutting ties with League One side Reading in December last year and has been weighing up his options over recent months. He is a former England youth international and has represented the Three Lions at Under-20 and Under-21 levels in the past.
According to The Star, the Owls are weighing up a swoop for him as they look to add more quality to their ranks this summer.
The Londoner has made 174 appearances in his career to date and has scored 12 goals. He had a trial at Plymouth Argyle in January, as per Workingham Today.
Sheffield Wednesday eye free agent
Sheffield Wednesday could see Ejaria as someone to add more competition and depth to their squad.
He has been out of the game for over six months now and needs to fix himself up a new home ahead of the next campaign.
If he was to join the Owls, he would be signing for a team who will be full of confidence heading into next term after their survival under Rohl.
Ejaria started out on the books at Arsenal and rose up through their academy ranks before moving up north to join Liverpool in 2014.
He then went on to play eight times for the Reds’ first-team as a youngster, as well as having loan spells away from Anfield at Sunderland, Rangers and Reading to get some experience under his belt.
The latter then snapped him up on a permanent basis in 2020 and he was given the green light to leave Merseyside for good.
Ejaria went on to play 72 matches for the Royals, chipping in with five goals, and he was a key player for his previous club.
What next for ex-Reading man?
He couldn’t prevent the Berkshire outfit from relegation to the third tier last year and stayed put during the first-half of last season.
However, his contract was cut short last winter and he has since been considering his options.
Sheffield Wednesday have become the latest team to be linked after Plymouth Argyle in January.
