Huddersfield Town and Stoke City ‘battling’ to sign former Barnsley man as Burnley table contract offer.

Huddersfield Town are reportedly battling Stoke City to sign Jay Rodriguez from Burnley.
The 34-year-old is out of contract at Turf Moor but has been offered fresh terms by the Clarets. If he opts against putting pen to paper, it appears he may have options elsewhere in the EFL.

According to reporter Alan Nixon, via his Patreon page, the Terriers and the Potters both want to recruit the frontman. Rodriguez is familiar with Huddersfield boss Michael Duff, having played alongside him for Burnley.

This connection may prove vital for Huddersfield if they are to secure Rodriguez’s signature ahead of clubs who can offer Championship football.

The forward rejoined Burnley in 2019, having previously represented the club between 2007 and 2012. He has productive spells at Southampton and West Bromwich Albion on his CV, as well as a brief stint in Yorkshire. He joined Barnsley on loan in 2010, scoring once in six games for the Reds.

His former teammate, Duff, has been tasked with rebuilding Huddersfield following the club’s relegation to League One. Speaking after his appointment as head coach, Duff said: “I can guarantee that I will give my all for Huddersfield Town – that’s what I’ll be asking of my players too – and together alongside our supporters we have a pre-season and campaign ahead that we’ll be ready to attack.
