Cubs roster moves: Dansby Swanson activated, Luis Vazquez called up, Miles Mastrobuoni and PCA optioned.

The Cubs have their Gold Glove shortstop back.

Dansby Swanson has been on the injured list since May 8 with a right knee sprain. The Cubs have definitely missed their Gold Glove shortstop.

Nothing has been officially announced by the team yet, but late Monday these transactions were placed on the Cubs’ transaction page on their website:

In addition, earlier news had leaked about Luis Vazquez being called up via … his cousin, who is a reporter for ESPN:

Swanson hit well over his first 10 games this year but before his IL placement had been in a bad slump. In 27 games between April 9 and May 7, he batted just .177/.233/.260 (17-for-96) with 31 strikeouts. Hopefully, now healthy, he can provide a little offense as well as defensive stability.

Vazquez has always been seen as a good defender. He played in the Arizona Fall League in 2021, and this year at Iowa he is batting .262/.360/.397 (37-for-141) with 10 doubles and three home runs. He’ll be playing in the major leagues for the first time at age 24.

In 23 games for the Cubs this year, Pete Crow-Armstrong has batted .236/.295/.364 (13-for-55) with two doubles, a triple, a home run and five stolen bases. He’ll surely be back at some point later this year.

After being recalled earlier this month, Miles Mastrobuoni hit .179/.281/.214 (5-for-28) in 11 games in May.

Presumably, since Nico Hoerner was not involved in any of these transactions, he will also be ready to play Tuesday. As always, we await developments
