Southampton ‘thinking about making an offer’ for forward – Already scouted him last year.
Southampton have already scouted FC St. Pauli forward Elias Saad ahead of a potential move for him this summer.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who report that Southampton sent a scout at the end of last year to watch the 24-year-old in action.
A report earlier today indicated they were one of several sides looking at the forward, who managed seven goals and two assists in 30 games in the 2. Bundesliga this season.
Fussball Transfers follow that up and explain that Saad’s career path appears to be going steeply upwards after joining St Pauli in a €100k deal in the January transfer window.
Since then, he’s turned into a top performer, making his debut in the Tunisian national team in March and potentially setting himself up for a big move in the summer too.
That’s because he finds himself on the list of options being looked at by FC Union Berlin, Getafe and Southampton.
In terms of the latter, they sent scouts to the Millerntor Stadium at the end of last year so they could get an impression of the attacker’s abilities in person. They must have been impressed as they are now ‘thinking about making an offer’ for him.
According to FT’s information, Saad’s current contract runs until 2026 so an ‘adequate transfer fee’ is required to get him out of St Pauli. They put no figure on him, but Transfermarkt currently value him at €3m for reference.
Whether that’s a fee Southampton or any other club would pay remains to be seen but they’re interested and have already watched him live to get their own opinion on him.
