Bengals UDFA signing Lance Robinson was childhood best friends with Ja’Marr Chase
Their families have known each other since they were five.
One of the Cincinnati Bengals’ undrafted free agent signings and Ja’Marr Chase are childhood best friends.
The 5-foot-10 former Tulane standout Lance Robinson played with Chase in youth and middle school sports before the two eventually parted ways in high school.
Having known each other since they were five, the two, along with a group of just over half a dozen from that time, have stayed close. Robinson will now get a shot to make the roster beside his former best friend.
“He knows my tendencies, I know his tendencies. We stayed away from each other. He said, ‘You do your thing, I’ll do my thing.’ I feel like if I can do well against him, I can do well against anybody,” Robinson said via Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson.
Playing Division 1 football for a top mid-major is certainly no easy feat, so Robinson has had a good start to his career and will hope to sustain that in Cincinnati.
The success that Chase has had has been unprecedented, so hopefully, he can teach Robinson a thing or two about covering players like himself, and that can help sustain a spot on the 53-man or practice roster.
Robinson got to touch base with Chase and get some advice prior to coming up to the Queen City.
“He just told me, ‘Do your part.’ It’s something not too many people have done. Two best friends on the same team that can impact the game all day. He can catch touchdowns, and hopefully, I can catch interceptions,” Robinson said.
With offseason workouts starting to ramp up soon, Robinson’s time to make an impact on the staff will be here soon.
