Garcia and Winker hit home runs as the Washington Nationals snap their losing streak with a 12-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
Luis García Jr. hit a home run and brought in three runs, while Eddie Rosario also contributed with three RBIs as the Washington Nationals ended a five-game losing streak with a 12-3 win over the struggling Minnesota Twins on Monday night.
Jesse Winker added a solo home run, and Jacob Young’s two-run single in the fifth inning contributed to a total of 14 hits for the Nationals, who handed the Twins their seventh consecutive loss.“We focused on hitting towards the middle of the field,” said Nats manager Dave Martinez. “While we hit some home runs today, most of our hits were directed there, which is something we emphasize.”
Following the game, the Twins held a meeting among players to address issues, particularly with their offense, which has only scored 12 runs during their losing streak.
“It’s easy to be positive when everything’s going well,” noted Carlos Correa, who hit a two-run homer for the Twins. “But tough times reveal true character. Talking it out can be beneficial.”
Mitchell Parker earned the win, allowing three runs over six innings, his longest outing since April. Correa’s homer in the sixth was one of the few blemishes in Parker’s performance, but he managed to escape further damage.
Pablo López endured a tough outing for the Twins, giving up seven runs in five innings. Washington added three more runs in the sixth inning and two more in the eighth, aided by an error on a stolen base.
In the second inning, the Twins missed an opportunity to score more runs when Nats shortstop CJ Abrams threw out Byron Buxton at home on a relay after a double by Willi Castro. Despite a run scoring, Parker settled in afterward, retiring 10 of the next 11 batters.
