Cheese Curds 5/17: Packers prepare for start of OTAs next week.

The Packers take the field as a team next week to begin their quest for another Super Bowl.

There’s no question that the NFL has figured out how to capture the attention of its fans during the offseason. From the Combine to free agency to the NFL Draft to this week’s schedule release, barely a day goes by between February and June without some sort of NFL event taking place.

Next week, the Green Bay Packers will finally be out on the practice field as a full team, with the first Organized Team Activities practice set for Monday. They will practice Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday next week, which is the first of four straight weeks of practice that culminates with a mandatory minicamp from June 11-13.

This year, it appears that the entire roster plans to be in attendance. Jaire Alexander, who was absent last season for much of the offseason, has been in the building and participating in workouts throughout the early phases of the program. He and the rest of the Packers’ veterans have plenty of financial incentives to be there, with the Packers using workout bonuses as a common contract tool.

It will be a refreshing change to finally see players on the field and starting their preparations for the season next week rather than talking about roster construction and other off-the-field topics.

With that, let’s move on to a grab bag of random Packers and NFL news!
