Wolves will allow Mason Rees to leave the club as his pathway to the first team is blocked by two signings from Man City, sources tell Football Insider.

Gary O’Neil’s side captured City midfield duo Tommy Doyle, 22, and Matthew Whittingham, 19, last summer, with the former having recently secured a permanent move following his loan spell.

Rees, 18, had previously been tipped as a bright talent for the future, having signed a new deal just nine months ago.

However, the new arrivals have closed the door to first-team opportunities in midfield.

Both Doyle, 22, and Whittingham, 19, have been touted as rising stars in the Wolves ranks, with Doyle having featured 25 times in the Premier League this season.

He quickly established himself as an important player in O’Neil’s team and has added to the first-team options in midfield.
