Grading Brian Thomas Jr.’s 2024 NFL Draft landing spot with Jaguars.

The Jaguars drafted Brian Thomas Jr. to become their new WR1. But can he fill that role?

With the departures of both Zay Jones and Calvin Ridley this offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars need to find receivers for 200 vacated targets. While Gabe Davis was brought in via free agency to help, the biggest move to bolster their WR room was by drafting Brian Thomas Jr.

Selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Thomas immediately slots into the Jaguars offense with a high chance of becoming Trevor Lawrence’s top target. A vertical threat that has a solid understanding of how to operate in the end zone, Thomas is the perfect addition to a WR group that needs young talent.

Overall situation & supporting cast

Catching passes from Lawrence will feel like a walk in the park for Thomas, who also had an easy time in college as he caught passes from Heisman winner Jayden Daniels. Thomas was extremely successful alongside Malik Nabers, the fifth overall pick in April’s draft, so he is more than comfortable dealing with competition.

With how the current WR room is structured for Jacksonville, Thomas has a clear shot at becoming a field-stretching threat right out of the gate. Being one of the few bigger-bodied wideouts on the roster, Thomas shouldn’t have to compete with either Davis or Christian Kirk for much outside work.
