Dallas Cowboys urged to make Zay Jones call, his dad won three Super Bowls with the team
Despite the NFL Draft coming to an end on Saturday night, teams can now gauge a better perspective of their rosters and what positions still need to be filled.
The Dallas Cowboys drafted from all over the field and addressed both sides of the ball when on the clock in Detroit.
They started by taking Oklahoma left tackle Tyler Guyton after Jerry Jones traded back with the Detroit Lions in the first rounds.
Furthermore, the rookie will serve as Tyron Smith’s successor after he joined free agency and signed with the New York Jets.
Cowboys take Justin Rogers on the final day but have turned back to free agency
That was with the first pick and two days later in the seventh round, with the Cowboys final pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, they selected defensive tackle Justin Rodgers.
Unlike his first-round teammate, Rogers will not be a Day 1 starter but will aspire to reach there.
Instead, the rookie will play as a rotational defensive lineman who has the power to shift players and create space for teammates.
However, there are still spots on the roster that America’s Team can address during the professional free agency.
The undrafted rookies have been filtered into their mini free agency and franchises sought after players to bulk out their rosters.
Despite having very limited movement in free agency before the NFL Draft, supposedly to save cap space, one of the only places to get Day 1 starters remains open.
Stephen Jones stated that they maximize their cap space every year and will have to dip into free agency to do so.
Cowboys reporter believes that Zay Jones could be worth a punt
Cowboys expert and reporter Clarence Hill was confident about a wide receiver they could acquire on the open market.
On X, the reporter posted: “A healthy Zay Jones would be a good addition to Cowboys receiver room. Dad, Robert Jones, a Super Bowl champion with Cowboys.”
Hill is confident that the recently released AFC South prospect from the Jacksonville Jaguars will have an impact on the Cowboys if healthy.
Before reaching Jacksonville, Jones had a turbulent career in Buffalo and among the Las Vegas Raiders roster.
Jones had a breakout season in 2022 but suffered injuries in 2023
Nonetheless, he managed to find his feet with the Jaguars and produced a career-high receiving season with 823 yards.
Moreover, during their two playoff games in 2022, he went for 157 yards.
Jones suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 which had him sidelined for 2023, one of two periods of inactivity last season.
Dallas is on the hunt for a WR2 after they cut Michael Gallup to save $9.5 million.
Additionally, his dad Robert Jones was a part of the Cowboys super dynasty that won three Super Bowls in the four years between 1992 and 1995.
