How much Ezekiel Elliott will make on his new contract with the Dallas Cowboys After Patroits Contract Cancelled
Jerry Jones has decided to bring back their former two-time All-Pro Ezekiel Elliott for a shot at glory once more.
The free agent had come off a career-low season with the New England Patriots and will return to Dallas after a lone season away.
Elliott and his agent spoke to the Dallas Cowboys before the NFL Draft and it seemed it could be the early stages of a reunion.
Elliot set to return to the Dallas Cowboys from free agency
Today, Tom Pelissero confirmed that, pending a physical, the 28-year-old will sport the blue and white Cowboys jersey in 2024.
During his one season in New England, he was the second-string rusher behind Rhamondre Stevenson.
Moreover, he was predominately used in short-yardage and goal-to-go situations.
When Stevenson suffered an injury in Week 13, Elliott became the starter for the remainder of the year.
Jerry Jones was interested in pairing the former two-time NFL Rushing Yards Leader (2016 and 2018) with a rookie.
Jonathon Brooks was stolen by the Panthers on Day 2 of the NFL Draft
Jonathon Brooks was the highest-graded running back on the Dallas Cowboys’ board but was poached by the Carolina Panthers.
Therefore, Dallas pursued other positions in the draft and left without a starting rusher.
This missed opportunity has spurred the front office to secure Elliott for 2024 even without their desired rookie.
The responsibility for three-time Pro Bowler may have shifted and America’s Team will hope that there is still juice in those legs.
In addition, the key details of his new one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys have been revealed.
Figures of Ezekiel Elliot set to return of a minimal contract
Based on the current market, the Illinois native has to settle for a minimal payout.
Elliott is set to agree to a one-year deal contract worth up to $3 million, including $2 million fully guaranteed, according to reporter Clarence Hill.
Per Pro Football Talk, the rusher earned north of $70 million during his seven seasons on the Cowboys roster.
In 2019, after having his fifth-year rookie extension triggered, Elliott withheld from training camp and leveraged a record-breaking deal.
Ultimately, he became the highest-paid running back in the league securing a six-year deal worth $90 million with $50 million guaranteed.
Jerry Jones has stated his regrets over the deal and he is still learning from the situation.
Now, Elliott will earn 35 times less on this one-year deal compared to his mega contract in 2019.
