Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez inexplicably left off top ten pitcher power rankings
MLB Network is at it again with the subpar lists.
Atlanta Braves fans have learned that MLB Network rankings aren’t exactly the greatest. Once the 2024 baseball season got underway, many thought we were done being subjected to these poorly made lists. Unfortunately, MLB Network is at it again.
This time it’s MLB Network’s in season starting pitcher power rankings. Their top ten list features many talented and deserving pitchers throughout. However, the lists’ major flaw is the absent name who has been pitching lights out for Atlanta.
Reynaldo Lopez somehow not seen as a top ten pitcher right now
We’ll try not to rant about this too much, as again the list features a lot of really good arms. However, compiling a top ten list of starting pitchers and not including the guy who has the lowest ERA (Lopez has a 0.72 ERA) seems like malpractice.
Each one of these listed names are in the midst of excellent starts to their 2024 campaign. However, none of them are pitching to the tune of a sub 1.00 ERA in April. It seems like MLB Network is rewarding guys with name value like Dylan Cease (3-2, 2.78 ERA) over more deserving candidates. I understand the argument that Cease may end up with better numbers when you project over a full season, but the list is top ten starting pitchers right NOW.
Atlanta isn’t the only team that should have beef with this list though. The San Francisco Giants have a couple of RHP that have a case as well. Jordan Hicks (2-0, 1.59 ERA) is thriving in his new role as a starting pitcher, and Logan Webb (3-1, 2.33 ERA) has quietly been one of the best pitchers in baseball for a number of years now.
Hopefully, another strong outing from Reynaldo Lopez will force MLB Network to right their wrongs in next weeks starting pitcher power rankings. But then again I’m sure Braves fans won’t be holding their breath.
