Barnsley host Northampton Town on the final day of the campaign tomorrow.
Reports suggest that Austrian manager Dominik Thalhammer is in line to take over at the Tykes, with the 53-year-old most recently in charge of Belgian outfit KV Oostende. He previously had a long stint as boss of the Austria women’s national team.
At the time of publication, Tykes assistant head coach Martin Devaney has so far stepped up in the interim period.
Oxford United head coach Buckingham said: “It’s never nice to see any manager lose their job, but there have been I think 35 managerial changes in the English Football League since I was appointed in November, which shows the career path that we go into.
“You do it because of the excitement you get with doing it, but the insecurities are part of it unfortunately.
“They’ve made the decision they have, and I feel for the coach, but it’s not something we need to look at. We need to make sure we do what we need to do.”
