Gillingham vs Ipswich Town 21st September 2019 (MATCH DAY VLOG)

Bristol Rovers boss Matt Taylor has said they will hold ‘conversations’ with Ipswich Town over a potential return for Elkan Baggott.

Bristol Rovers landed the defender on loan in the January transfer window.

Baggott, 21, is due to return to Portman Road at the end of the season.

Taylor has said, as per a report by BristolLive: “Anyone that performs like that you always want to keep as a manager. We will have those conversations further down the line but first things first for him is finish the season well, stay fully fit and healthy and then he’ll go back to his parent club whose league will still be going on and see where that takes him.”

Baggott has made 13 appearances for Bristol Rovers since his winter switch and has bolstered their defensive ranks.

Ipswich Town have a decision to make on what to do with him next ahead of next term. He is under contract with the Championship promotion hopefuls until June 2025 meaning he still has over a year left on his deal.

The Indonesia international, who has made 24 caps to date, has risen up through the academy ranks of the Tractor Boys and has played seven times for their first-team.

He has also had loan spells away at King’s Lynn Town, Gillingham and Cheltenham Town in the past to get some experience under his belt.

His chances of breaking into Ipswich Town’s starting XI under Kieran McKenna are slim right now and would be further reduced if they get promoted to the Premier League. They are currently battling it out at the top end of the table with the likes of Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton.

Cody McDonald is hoping to maintain his goalscoring form when Gillingham entertain Oldham in League 1

Therefore, another exit could be a sensible decision with Bristol Rovers eyeing a potential reunion.

The Gas have a big summer ahead as ex-Exeter City and Rotherham United manager Taylor looks to put his own stamp on the squad. They face Wigan Athletic away on the final day this weekend.
