Burnley are starting to look the winners from £2m Stoke City agreement
Josh Tymon signed for Swansea from Championship rivals Stoke City last summer and he’s gained plaudits for recent performances
After a slow start to life at Swansea City, Josh Tymon has become a standout player in Luke Williams’ team and he’s been instrumental in the Swans’ recent improved form.
It’s been a far from ideal season for Swansea, and Michael Duff, the man who brought Tymon to the club, was sacked in December, but under Luke Williams the left-back has really come to the fore.
The 24-year-old was signed from Championship rivals Stoke City on the last day of the 2023 summer transfer window for a fee of just £2million, and he’s proved to be an excellent signing.
Given his age and recent performances, it looks as if the Swans have a real star in the making, and Stoke must be regretting their decision to let the defender leave given their struggles this season.
Josh Tymon’s 2023/24 season at Swansea City
Having joined the club on deadline day, Josh Tymon didn’t have too much time to get up to speed, and made his debut just two weeks later against Cardiff City. Given the rivalry between the two clubs, it was a daunting fixture to make your debut in.
It wasn’t the best of starts for the defender as Cardiff’s Ollie Tanner beat him with ease for the Bluebirds’ goal, but things could only get better after that, and so it’s proved.
After a few weeks of being used from the bench, Tymon regained his place in the starting lineup in October, and has been nearly ever present since.
In total, Tymon has made 39 appearances for Swansea City this season, and has registered six assists, including one in the club’s 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday, which mathematically secured their Championship status for next season.
The 24-year-old gained plaudits for his role in the goal, with a superb touch to control Carl Rushworth’s pass, taking the ball in his stride before unselfishly laying the ball on a plate for Ronald to tap the ball into the net.
It showed why Tymon has become so popular amongst the Jack Army in recent times, and he’s been a rare bright spot from a summer transfer window which underwhelmed, with many summer arrivals failing to make an impact in south Wales.
With a contract at the Swansea.com Stadium until 2026, Swansea have some security over the player’s future, but if he continues to impress, there could well be transfer interest in the player soon.
