After Nottingham Forest was denied three obvious penalty shouts during their 2-0 loss to Everton, the relegation battlers made a scathing post on X attacking the level of refereeing in the Premier League and the supposed biased refereeing during the clash. Watt, an NFL star, echoed the Tricky Reds’ sentiments in a post on X as he admitted he would post the same thing in that situation if Burnley faced similar officiating.

Commenting under Nottingham’s X post, Watt said: “This is about what it might look like if I took over control of our official club account.”

Watts is not a newbie to the criticism of Premier League referees and has himself complained multiple times as he believes that a lot of decisions have gone against Burnley this season.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Watt said: “As a small club, with some of those things you don’t have a voice necessarily, you don’t have the ability to speak up. I’m happy to be that voice because I do know what it feels like to be a fan and literally an owner in those situations. This season it does seem oddly stacked up in a certain way and you start to get those official apology letters multiple times and you’re like: ‘Okay, how many times do we get these letters before we take a look at this whole thing here?'”
