Braves look for seventh straight win against Rangers Unfortunately He Resigned After A Frustating Loss

Darius Vines will take the ball Sunday for the Atlanta Braves as they look to complete a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers.

The Atlanta Braves will go for a seventh straight win Sunday night when they wrap up a three-game series against the Texas Rangers. Atlanta took the opener Friday 8-3 behind some good pitching from Chris Sale and three home runs from catcher Travis d’Arnaud. Charlie Morton pitched well Saturday while d’Arnaud homered again to give Atlanta a 5-2 win. Darius Vines will make his second start of the season for the Braves Sunday while the Rangers will go with right-hander Michael Lorenzen.

Vines pitched well in his debut start last week in Houston holding the Astros to four hits and one run over 4 23 innings. He walked three and struck out four before exiting after 80 pitches. Vines impressed enough to stick in the rotation for another turn as the Braves look to fill the spot that was vacated by Spencer Strider’s season-ending injury.

Lorenzen was a late addition to the Rangers who are trying to piece together a rotation until they can get some of their injured arms back. Lorenzen’s debut was a bit of a mixed bag. He allowed three hits over five scoreless innings, but also issued five walks to go along with four strikeouts against his former club in Detroit. Lorenzen hasn’t had much luck against the Braves in his career allowing 24 hits and 17 runs in 20 13 innings.

d’Arnaud became the 16th player in franchise history to total at least four homers over a two-game period. Joe Adcock holds the record with five homers in two games set back in 1954. d’Arnaud is the first Braves player to reach the mark since Marcell Ozuna in September of 2020.

Ozuna’s 17-game hitting streak came to an end with an 0-for-5 performance Saturday night. He still managed to drive in a run and leads the major with 24 RBI through his first 18 games. Michael Harris led the way with three hits in Saturday’s win.

Sunday’s game will be shown exclusively on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and has a scheduled start time of 7:10 p.m. ET.

For the 30-year-old Minter, who will reach free agency after this season, his consistency should make him one of the most appealing free agents in the upcoming class. Since becoming a full-time major leaguer in 2018, Minter’s 102 holds is the second-most in baseball over that period, behind only New York Mets reliever Adam Ottavino. They’re also the most by any left-handed reliever over that span.

And with one more hold, Minter’s mark could potentially become the franchise record, as holds were not an official stat until 1986 and so records are spotty for earlier seasons. The team’s official records page doesn’t even track records for holds among its pitching statistics, but it’s believed that the organizational record belongs to Remlinger, who played for Atlanta from 1999 through 2002. Remlinger was recognized as an All-Star in 2002, a year in which he finished with a 1.99 ERA and 7-3 record, picking up 30 holds in his 68 innings.
