49ers trade Trey Lance to Cowboys

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott’s change in tone about future outlook should have fans worried

A QB who couldn’t picture himself in another uniform before, now Dak Prescott is openly discussing all options for his future.

This offseason has been a perplexing one for Cowboys Nation. It feels like a broken record at this point, but with the activity and pursuit to make this team better so remarkably low since the season ended, it bares repeating once again.

The cause and effect of this plan of attack, in what many view to be a pivotal year, has already begun even if we do not realize it. The latest example comes from Dak Prescott and his latest comments on Friday afternoon. While attending ‘‘A Knight to Remember” Gala, Prescott spoke with a disposition and tone that should sound alarms for those around the fanbase.

Dak Prescott’s saying the quiet thing out loud

Prescott has never once wavered about his future and where he wanted to be. Never envisioned himself in any other helmet other than the star. However, on Friday night for maybe the first time publicly, Dak spoke about the current day, with less emphasis on down the road with the team, and spoke about a future outside of Dallas. That should raise eyebrows for those who have been paying attention, and it’s a bit concerning.

“I’m not going to say I fear being here or not,” Prescott starts. “I don’t fear either situation to be candid with you. I love this game, and love to play and better myself as a player and my teammates around me, and right now it’s with the Dallas Cowboys. It’s where I want to be, its where I am, that’s the focus and after the season we’ll see where we’re at, and if the future holds that, and if not, we’ll go from there.”

It’s the acceptance of the “if not” that is the most simple, but profound change in this Cowboys and Dak dynamic. Now, we can leave room for this to be hardball tactics with contract talks looming, and Dak has all the leverage in this scenario so he may be flexing it in the media for all we know. However, one could wonder just what is being said behind the scenes during all this. Stephen and Jerry Jones have been clear, at least publicly, that Dak is their guy, but there is no contract and no progress seemingly being made, maybe that is the silent truth in all this?
