Hull City boss Liam Rosenior makes Aaron Connolly admission ahead of Championship season

Hull City urged to secure transfer for QPR star Chris Willock

Our fan pundit suggests that Hull could try and sign Chris Willock in the summer.

Hull City’s recent form may cost them a shot at the Championship play-offs, but a game in hand provides a glimmer of hope.

The Tigers recruited well in January, signing players like Fabio Carvalho and Ryan Giles, but may still fall short of expectations.

Hull should consider signing QPR winger Chris Willock, who could provide depth on the wings and be a shrewd free transfer option.

Hull City have hit form at the wrong time this season, which has led to them likely missing out on a place in the Championship play-offs, barring a lot of luck.

The Tigers have only won two of their last nine games, which has left them in seventh position, and six points off of Norwich City. Crucially, Hull do have a game in hand which gives them a glimmer of hope.

Liam Rosenior’s side recruited very well in January and arguably signed players that could have gone to bigger teams. They brought in seven players, including the likes of Fabio Carvalho, Anass Zaroury and Ryan Giles on loan from Liverpool, Burnley and Luton Town respectively.

But ultimately they may fall short of expectations, and so Hull’s owner Alun Ilcali will be surely backing the manager again ahead of what looks to be a busy summer, with a lot of loan players set to be heading back to their parent clubs.

Hull could try and sign QPR winger Chris Willoc

Speaking exclusively to FLW, our fan pundit Ant Northgraves has said that Queens Park Rangers’ Chris Willock has to be a player that Hull should be looking at signing in the summer.

He said: “I would really like us to go for Chris Willock. Obviously one of the starring players at QPR along with the likes of Ilias Chair, we did actually go for him in January on a permanent, but obviously given how close we are dealing with FFP at the minute, we could not pull off a deal like that.

“I would be very surprised if we did not go back in for him in the summer given that players like Anass Zaroury will be going back to their parent clubs, and we are going to need winger depth.

“As things stand, (Jaden) Philogene and Abdul Omur will be our main wingers, with Jason Lokilo as backup and Harry Vaughan, but Vaughan is very young and raw, he needs more experience in playing and probably needs a couple of loan spells, and Lokilo has perhaps shown that he is not good enough for this level, so we will need a player that can step up in injuries and suspension or dips in form with the other layers and give competition.

“So yeah, I would really like us to go after Chris Willock definitely, a very good player.”

Chris Willock could be a great signing for Hull

Willock could potentially be a very shrewd and smart signing by Hull.

As was previously mentioned, Hull are set to be lacking depth on the wings with Zaroury heading back to Burnley, whilst Philogene has also been rumoured to be departing with Premier League clubs linked.

A loan move for Vaughan is likely, whilst Lokilo failed to make an impression in the first half of the season, before he was loaned out to Portugal in January.

Willock could be a cheap option for Hull to go with. His contract is set to expire in the summer, so he would be available on a free transfer.

He is only 26 years old, so still has plenty more to offer at Championship level, having proven his ability at this level for a number of years now.

Chris Willock’s QPR stats (league only, as of 16/04/24, as per FotMob)
Season Appearances Goals Assists
23/24 36 4 3
22/23 28 6 2
21/22 35 7 11
20/21 38 3 5

This season is his fourth campaign for QPR, and he continues to be one of their main attacking threats, and he is also versatile in that he can play anywhere behind the striker.

Willock would be a great signing on a free, and could be the solution for Hull’s future problem.
