Three Coventry City players Manchester United need to be wary of in FA Cup semi-final clash

Manchester United take on unfamiliar opponents on Sunday, with the FA Cup semi-final clash against Coventry City taking place at Wembley Stadium.

Erik ten Hag will be desperate for his shot at FA Cup redemption. Last season, the Red Devils lost miserably in the final to their bitter rivals Manchester City.

Now this season, it looks like it could be a repeat. Pep Guardiola’s side face Chelsea on the other side of the draw. However, to even think about a repeat against the Cityzens, United must get past Coventry.

The Championship club are a very unfamiliar opponent for the Red Devils, so who should United fans be wary of in the clash?

Haji Wright has been a goalscoring machine for the Sky Blues this season. A versatile forward, the American can play on the wing, or up front.

He’s been banging them in for fun, currently Coventry’s second top scorer with 17 in all competitions, whilst leading the way in terms of assists on six.

Against what will be a depleted Manchester United defence – he could thrive. Not to be underestimated.

Josh Eccles is the heartbeat of the Coventry side and is arguably their strongest midfielder.

He was severely missed in their last fixture, which ended badly, but it could have been different if Eccles was on the pitch.

He’s nailed on to start against the Red Devils and will look to battle it out against the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.

It was always going to be a tall order replacing the now Manchester United-linked Viktor Gyokeres, but it was Everton’s Ellis Simms that Coventry decided to go for.

The 6’3 striker has been more than a good investment. He has a whopping 22 goals in all competitions this season – the club’s top scorer, so is definitely a danger. Amad Diallo knows about his capabilities, having played with him at Sunderland.

“We are excited to play that game against Coventry,” he told club media. “I will meet Ellis Simms, who was my team-mate, the striker. I think my teammates are ready for that game. We hope to win it and go to the final.
