Unpredictable Dallas Cowboys in very open position ahead of NFL Drafts, says ESPN expert
The NFL Draft is only eight days away and the Dallas Cowboys have put all their eggs in that basket.
Due to the exodus of players in the NFL offseason, the Cowboys face their toughest draft battle in years.
Six free agents have been signed, with just two of them being new additions from 2023.
Royce Freeman and Eric Kendricks have joined a depleted roster that is lacking in areas of attrition.
Jerry Jones decided to use the draft to supplement the offseason roster
Jerry Jones has been an excellent drafter in recent history and is one of the best general managers in this area.
Now, he will have to rely on his senses and research once again.
It is no secret that the Cowboys must hit on every draft pick.
On offense, apart from quarterback and tight end, all positions could be selected in the first round.
Moreover, it is nearly guaranteed that America’s Team will be playing with a rookie center and left tackle/guard.
A starting running back is also required as Tony Pollard left for the Tennessee Titans.
Michael Gallup has opened up a starting wide receiver role after he was cut to save $9.5 million in cap space.
Peter Schrager predicts the Cowboys to take the fastest man in the draft
Peter Schrager predicted in his latest mock draft that Xavier Worthy could be their first choice.
On the other side of the ball, there are big gaps to plug, especially at linebacker.
In addition, there is no sign that former All-Pro Stephon Gilmore will be returning at cornerback.
Johnathan Hankins’ departure highlights a need for a defensive interior lineman who can stop the run.
Positions all over the field and both sides of the ball need addressing and they do not have enough picks to suffice.
This makes it more imperative that the Cowboys recruit excellently and uncover hidden gems in the later rounds.
Jerry Jones must pick ‘the best player available’ at 24
ESPN’s Matt Miller explained the Cowboys’ best approach in the NFL Draft: “Outside of quarterback the Dallas Cowboys could select any position in the first round of the NFL Draft.
“We would have to applaud it because they need the best player available. Most importantly, they need guys who can come in and play right away because they haven’t made moves in free agency.”
Most franchises will have one or two key positions that need addressing in the first round, so it is accurate to predict who they could choose.
As the Cowboys have numerous holes, it will be hard to predict who they select when on the clock with the 24th pick.
