Braves News: Ozzie Albies placed on Injured List, series in Houston and more.
The Atlanta Braves experienced another tough break on the injury front as second baseman Ozzie Albies was placed on the10-day injured list.
27-year-old Albies was hit by a pitch in Monday night’s matchup, which left him limping for the remaining eight frames. Further evaluation revealed that he suffered a fracture in his right great toe.
This will not be the first foot injury for Albies, who was sidelined for a significant time in 2022 due to a foot fracture. Luckily, though, this injury will not require surgery, and Albies could return in a couple weeks.
Albies’ 2024 was off to a hot start, with a .317 average in 63 at-bats. He’s already cranked two home runs and swiped two bags. The Braves continue to be plagued with injury, with the absence of Sean Murphy and Spencer Strider.
In the meantime, the club selected the contract of infielder David Fletcher, who will likely split some time at second base along with Luis Guillorme. Fletcher was acquired this offseason and has since appeared in 13 games for Triple-A Gwinnett. He’s currently slashing .280/.383/.320 and will be an interesting addition to the Atlanta infield.
Reynaldo López continued to show his worth as a starter while the Braves defeated the Houston Astros 6-2 to claim the series.
