Why your team’s next effective starter may be hiding in the bullpen.
Today on Pinstripe Alley – 4/16/24
The Yanks are facing the possibility of their first losing streak of the year.
The Yankees followed up their back-and-forth backbreaker finale against Cleveland on Sunday with a sluggish performance on Monday in Toronto, opening this series with an underwhelming 3-1 loss. It’s impossible to keep stacking wins on top of wins forever in a 162-game season, but it still sucks to see the first dip of the year come in, and the Yankees are staring down their first series loss if
they can’t pick up the next two against the Blue Jays. That being said, they were in this very position the first time they met the Jays at the start of the month, and pulled off that comeback then — let’s see if they can match it here.
Today starts off with Smith delivering the second week of reviews for the minor league teams, and Nick Power takes us back to the very first series the Yankees played at the formerly-named SkyDome 25 years ago. Later, Sam recaps the AL action from around the league last night, Jeff covers today’s rewind to the 1999 team and the beginning of their first slide in the season, and
Esteban covers Anthony Volpe’s three-run blast against the Marlins for the At-Bat of the Week. Finally, Nick Sarnelli opines on the historical greatness that the Yankees could set up at the top of their order with Anthony Volpe’s sophomore surge proving more and more real.
