Leicester City sent brutal Enzo Maresca message after ‘wheels are falling off’ claim.
Leeds United and Ipswich Town ready to pounce after Foxes are beaten for the second time in four days to throw Championship title race wide open.
Angry Leicester City fans turned on head coach Enzo Maresca after seeing their team lose for the second time in four days against struggling opposition.
In midweek it was Millwall inflicting a 1-0 defeat on the one-time runaway leaders of the Championship title race. Tonight it was Plymouth Argyle, Mustapha Bundu curling home the decisive goal in the first half.
Foxes fans were left hugely frustrated after seeing chance after chance go begging, with the chief culprit Patson Daka also having a first-half effort chalked off.
Despite the loss, Leicester remain top, although that could change when Ipswich and Leeds United play their weekend games.
Third-placed Leeds can go above City if they beat Blackburn in the lunchtime game, while Ipswich would only need to draw with Middlesbrough to go top, although the Foxes will have a game in hand on their promotion rivals after the weekend games.
Former Foxes star Matt Piper, summarising the game for BBC Radio Leicester, told listeners: “It feels like the wheels are falling off… there was a casual arrogance to certain players’ performances.”
It was a theme echoed by supporters when they reflected on the results, but most of their ire was reserved for Maresca and his apparent unwillingness to change his style of play as Leicester struggle to put the title race to bed.
Here is what some of them have been saying on social media…
Mel Browning: When people call us bottle jobs we have nothing to say back to defend the team. We don’t deserve automatic promotion.
Fox50: I’ve never felt so detached from this football club than I do today. Don’t like 90% of these players based on their mentality and attitude. And we’ve got a manager who is so stubborn he can’t see his style is killing and draining this squad. Enzo has to go.
HaIf Turn: Absolutely disgraceful yet again. Players don’t care as they’ll be off in the summer and it shines through with each passing loss. Embarrassing bunch.
