The Baltimore Orioles bolstered their depth in the bullpen by making a trade for a New York Mets reliever who got a standing ovation just two weeks ago.

The Baltimore Orioles made a move to bolster their bullpen as they traded cash considerations to the New York Mets for Yohan Ramírez.

Ramírez was designated for assignment by the Mets on Monday after he threw in three games and went 0-1 with an 11.81 ERA.

He will be on the Orioles’ 40-man roster, but it’s not immediately clear if he’ll be moved to the 26-man roster or be assigned to a minor-league affiliate. Baltimore played the Boston Red Sox in the final game of a three-game series on Thursday night.

Baltimore returns home to face the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.

He’s pitched in the Majors every year since 2020 when he broke in with the Seattle Mariners. Since the start of the 2022 season, he’s pitched for the Mariners, the Cleveland Guardians, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox. He is 6-5 with a 4.31 ERA for his MLB career.

The White Sox traded Ramírez to the Mets in December for cash.

But to Mets fans he’s better known for his incident with Milwaukee Brewers slugger Rhys Hoskins on opening weekend.

After Hoskins got into an argument with Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil on Opening Day, and then hit a home run in the second game of the series, Ramírez threw behind Hoskins during a place appearance that led to his ejection and, ultimately, a three-game suspension.

Mets fans loved it and gave Ramírez a standing ovation as he left the field.
