A tough performance and result to take

A win in this match was always going to be massive for the side who got it but unfortunately that never really looked like being Stoke. The hosts started brighter and Stoke seemed baffled by the wet, slow pitch.

It might have all been different and Stoke gifted an equaliser but for the dreadful refereeing intervention of Keith Stroud, who then gifted Swansea a penalty too. But Stoke couldn’t exactly say that they deserved much luck either.

Steven Schumacher knew no one would have much time for excuses and said: “I won’t go too far away from (Swansea being the better team). I thought our attitude was ok, the game plan was ok. We tried to get after them but just in them little moments when you have to come out on top in 50-50s we didn’t do it.

“To concede two goals from set pieces. We were too slow to react both times. That’s the most disappointing thing. Swansea haven’t cut us open, we’ve conceded goals that were poor from our point of view.”
