Tottenham gave Watford one of the club’s best modern day signings: View.
Heurelho Gomes proved to be a huge hit at Vicarage Road.
After a thoroughly disappointing 2013/14 campaign, it was back to the drawing board for Watford.
Although the Hornets had narrowly missed out on promotion in their first season under Pozzo ownership, finishing third and losing in the 2013 Championship play-off final at Wembley, they would go on to finish a disappointing 13th the following season.
Ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, then, the club knew they needed to make changes and get recruitment spot on.
That summer, a number of excellent signings arrived, one of which was goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
Manuel Almunia, formerly of Arsenal, had been at Vicarage Road the prior two seasons and had been a success, and the Hornets went down the experienced goalkeeper route once again with Gomes.
Watford sign Gomes from Spurs
Joining from Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer, Gomes’ move to Vicarage Road would go on to prove one of the club’s best signings in the modern era.
Not only did Gomes excel during his time at Vicarage Road on the pitch, his performances and personality also endeared him to the club’s supporters, going on to become a firm fan favourite in WD18.
Indeed, it is a deal and player that will live long in the memory of Hornets supporters, and for many reasons.
