Waiting for right time to advance’ – Vultures circling, club hoping for Burnley relegation to secure player.
German side TSG Hoffenheim are ‘waiting for the right time to advance’ and make a permanent move for Burnley striker Wout Weghorst.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the German side believe the striker ‘could be a bargain’ for them if he doesn’t have a purchase option in his current loan deal.
The newspaper explains that Hoffenheim are considering a permanent move for Weghorst at the end of the season, believing he could be a potential bargain purchase if Burnley are relegated from the Premier League.
Their hope is that relegation for Vincent Kompany’s side would force them to sell on the cheap in the summer as they would not have a ‘good negotiating position’ to try and bring Weghorst’s price up.
Thus, TSG are waiting for the right time to advance and make their move for the striker, who has five goals and one assist in 22 games in the Bundesliga this season.
What price they’re looking to pay isn’t mentioned but it seems they’re happy to sit and wait, hoping to drive Burnley to a lower figure by using them being relegated and the fact Weghorst will be in the final year of his deal at Turf Moor.
That’s not the only deal they’re hoping to do with Burnley either as they also want to ensure Jacob Bruun Larsen makes a permanent move to the Clarets.
He’s currently on loan in England but his deal has a €5m purchase clause included and Hoffenheim want that activated as they don’t see the player as having a future at the club.
Indeed, they renewed his contract specifically so he could go out on loan to Burnley and the second phase of that plan is him being sold on a permanent basis.
Perhaps there’s a deal to be done wherein he and Weghorst are simply swapped, but at the moment it all depends on what league Burnley are playing in first.
