Enzo Maresca walks off the pitch with Ricardo Pereira after Leicester City's 1-0 defeat to Bristol City

Enzo Maresca reacts to post-match anger in stands and attributes Leicester City loss to trend.

There was visible and audible frustration at full-time when Enzo Maresca and his players applauded those who had made the journey to Bristol City’s Ashton Gate.

Post-match anger in the stands was “understandable”, Enzo Maresca said after Leicester City’s automatic promotion hopes were dented by defeat at Bristol City.

Sections of the travelling City fanbase vented their fury at the full-time whistle on Good Friday after watching their team fall to a fourth Championship defeat in six. It means City will fall out of the automatic promotion places if Leeds avoid defeat and Ipswich are victorious later in the day.

Maresca and his players went over to the stand housing the City fans after the 1-0 loss at Ashton Gate, and while there was plenty of applause, there was more visible and audible frustration than at any previous defeat. Nerves among supporters may be starting to show, with the club’s once 14-point advantage in the top two now nearly wiped out.

“I think the reaction from them is quite normal,” Maresca said in his post-match press conference. “You can understand. The only thing I can say is that, especially in this moment, we need them. They have been brilliant until today and we need them until the end.”
